Don’t Fear the Root Canal!

Posted .

Root canals have gotten a bad reputation over the years. No one wants to hear that they need a root canal. Even the words conjure up visions of hours in the dental chair and great pain. However, with the advances in modern dentistry, root canals can be used to save teeth that would have required an extraction in the past, and it can be done painlessly. If you need a root canal, our dentists, Dr. Scott Fellows, and Dr. Michael Smink can help.

A root canal may take up to two visits. First, the dentist will access the infected pulp of your tooth. After removing the pulp, the dentist will enlarge the pulp chamber and thoroughly clean and disinfect it. The dentist will seal the chamber and replace the pulp with a medicated material. Then the dentist will seal your tooth. You will be scheduled for a follow-up visit to check your progress and discuss covering the tooth with a crown.  In the meantime, if you feel nauseous, develop a fever, or experience pain or swelling contact the dentist right away.

If you have a tooth that has been causing you problems, don’t wait until the pain becomes unbearable, call 570-622-0331 to make an appointment at Fellows and Smink Dental Associates in Pottsville, Pennsylvania.
